Over Gazing into the Abyss
A night of doom + shoegaze + noise. The abyss is loud, and it gazes back. A night of loud and heavy music at OT301 with bands from across the Dutch underground, each arriving from a different direction. Farer build doom out of two bass guitars, no guitar, and a voice used as a primal scream. Crashing play reverb-soaked shoegaze and alt-rock in the spirit of Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine. Hidden Since the Foundation of the World sit in between: electric violin, fuzz and feedback, somewhere between early Sabbath and spaced-out noise, inside a wall of fog. Slow where it needs to be, loud throughout. Three bands from 20:00, finished by 23:00. Bring earplugs. Hidden Since the Foundation of the World: Neo-psychedelic doom from Amsterdam. The band began at an academic panel on exorcism, where founding members Blev Lavoux (vocals, violin) and Joel Bordeaux (guitar, electronics) first met. By 2025 the two Americans had added a Dutch rhythm section — Ivar van der Heijden (bass) and Kareem de Vries (drums) — in Amsterdam. The band features electric violin, fuzz and feedback pulled from early Sabbath out to spaced-out noise, funeral doom and sludge, melody and post-punk restlessness riding on top. Live, synced films and samples dissolve into unpredictable, improvisational transitions inside a wall of fog. Crashing: Inspired by shoegaze and alt-rock giants like Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine, Crashing indulges in noisy reverberated hooks, intense live performances and raw unfiltered volume with a strong emphasis on DIY culture. Prepared for immersive noise and hard hitting tracks crafted not only to be heard, but to be physically felt. Farer: Dutch doom/noise trio creating an imposing discord of severe, caustic bass textures, harrowing vocals and winding drums. The band, featuring members of Ortega, was originally founded as MENHIR in 2013, but chose Farer as their new moniker mid 2019. The band features two bass players and the absence of a guitar. Their debut record Monad exhibits carefully crafted, drawn-out, oppressive and compelling songs, a committed and captivating testament to suffering. OT301 is een zelfbeheerd cultureel centrum op de Overtoom in Amsterdam-West, opgericht na een kraakactie in 1999 en sinds 2006 in handen van de coöperatieve vereniging EHBK. Het pand combineert woningen, werkruimtes en publieke functies onder één dak: de Ventilator cinema/bar, concertstudio's, de vegancafé Gilde, galerieruimte 4Bid en dansstudio's. De programmering loopt uiteen van techno, drum and bass en jungle-nights tot performances, exposities, filmscreenings en workshops. De plek trekt een underground, politiek-bewust publiek en draait volledig not-for-profit.
